I have been looking for a good way to get all of my make-up organized and easy to find. I saw something to do with magnets on another blog and it gave me this idea! It was pretty simple to make.. The hardest part was getting all of the materials together. But after a trip to Lowes, another trip to Michaels, and a car wreck I was able to get everything I needed! Here is a list of what I used:
1. Skinny Metal Sheet
2. Tacky Spray Glue
3. Hot Glue
4. Long Strip of Material
5. Magnets
6. Command Strips
7. Scissors
Okay, this is the first picture of supplies I took before I was finished with covering the sheet of metal with the material. I soon found out that these little rolls of magnets just aren't strong enough to do the job. I ended up taking a trip to Michaels in the middle of my craft project to pick up some stronger circular magnets.
First you'll want to cut the fabric about an inch bigger on all four sides to leave room to fold it over. Then spray Tacky Glue on the front side of the sheet of metal. Evenly lay the material on top of the metal without getting any wrinkles in it.
After the front is glued, you will hot glue the backside of the sheet and fold over the excess material like you're wrapping a present! Do this all around.
I didn't want any part of the back thicker than the other because I wanted it to lay evenly on the wall. So I cut the extra material off of the end pieces like this..
Then I piled on a ton of hot glue.
And I folded over the end piece.. Just like a big present!
The next step was to place the command strip on the back for hanging!! One on each side like this worked the best for me. And the best part was I didn't have to drill or nail anything into the walls.
Okay, now this is the point when I realized that the magnets weren't strong enough. It was kinda sad. So I hopped in my Jeep and went to Michaels to find some stronger ones. I ended up with the plain, thick circle magnets. Then I started to come home eager to finish my project and this is where my wreck took place. Uhh. But the good news is baby Carter or I wasn't hurt. Just my Jeep. But that's okay, it can be fixed pretty easily. Anyway, I hot glued the magnets to the back of the make-up I use daily!
And ta-da! It worked like a charm. I also added these pretty little sparkle stickers to give it a more "finished" look.. Oh and to add some glam.
And here is the final product (: I am quite happy with how it turned out!
Oh and did you notice these guys?! My friend Liz gave me this idea. She explains how to make these make-up brush holders HERE.
Hope you all have a great week (:
